At the Domaine du Stang, we are implementing an innovative conservation and historic preservation strategy – within a sustainable development context.

Preserving the past to foster our future

Historic farmsteads are a prominent contributor to regional distinctiveness and landscape. But changes in the farming industry are hastening their redundancy. In 2006 when agricultural

production was discontinued, the Domaine du Stang faced the risk of being dismantled (after 400 years) and its building slowly crumbling into ruins. A creative solution to its preservation and adaptive reuse was needed. That's why today the fractional ownership development is bankrolling the launch of the equestrian centre – keeping the farming tradition alive!

Sustainable renovation

At the Domaine du Stang we are taking appropriate steps to maintain a healthy, productive planet and, and we place great worth on the welfare of future generations. Our objective is to be less wasteful of natural resources.

Renovating the existing buildings and or constructing the new equestrian farm, we choose materials, designs and techniques which minimise our impact on the environment. We are using solar water heating, wood-fired boilers and ground source heat pumps. Also, thanks to tens of springs and a 24,000m3 artificial pond, the domain is almost water self-sufficient.

River otters are being reintroduced in Brittany

Eleven hectares in the Southern part of the domain belong to a registered wetland area. The Yun stream (main pictured above) bordering the domain, which has been left for years in a state of neglect, obstructed by dead vegetation, resulting in low biological productivity, will be reconstituted in cooperation with local conservation groups. A possible reintroduction of the river otter is being considered.
